Steve Owned this for quite some time but never commented, ...which is sad because it is one badass album. "Mania" has the heaviness I love in music, but it's the haunting vocals that bring the song full circle for me. Greece just keeps cranking out the stellar stoner/heavy rock bands that remain at the top of my playlist. Stonus kicks ass. Hell yeah 🤘🤘🤘 Favorite track: Mania.

David Yvinec While the band is undoubtedly indebted to the heavy stoner rock sound of the 90's, they also have a distinctive laid back vibe that make they more than a replica of Kyuss or Fu Manchu. In fact, they delve into psychedelia more than the aforementioned bands did. There are also more heavy metal and less hardcore punk influences in their sound. The bass guitar is quite heavy in the mix and in the forefront in a way that reminds me of groove metal at times. European sound all the way. Great stuff! Favorite track: Mania.

Saw these guys live and met them in person at a huge rock music festival in Cyprus and their sounds and vibes are as just dynamic, vibrant and captivating as in their digital album. I have just bought their vinyl and I'm siked to spin this masterpiece on my turntable. These guys definitely bring their own unique touch to the game and their work and potential are something not to sleep on. Definitely recommend the band's music and anyone reading this comment should consider watching them live. Favorite track: Aphasia.

Awake 07:14
Brain burning away, exploding to the sky in a single ray Heat aura decay, it’s boiling in my veins like a hurricane Come on x4 Stay awake x3 Dust breathe inhale, it’s getting in my lungs till I suffocate Punch in the face, I’ll catch him by the throat till he fills no pain Wheels rolling all day, 100 degrees till you get insane Come on x4 Stay awake x4 If I could turn back time I would not change anything, my only wish would be to see you alive to see you awake And when you show me the way, I try to stay awake…
3.
Aphasia 06:36
I could not see what I believe exists in real life All the shapes are being transformed so vivid in my mind Happiness is killing me, but I am lost inside The devil fights my inner thoughts and still I can survive A sinner’s soul ever awaked empowers in my mind Illusions and mysterious thoughts ignite beneath my eyes I slowly start to fade away and crash into the tides And then alone I rise again to fight subconscious lies Aphasia in my mind!
4.
Mania 06:35
Look in the mirror, try to change yourself Blend in the shadows try to inhale your scent Trapped in the times, how they pass so fast I’m losing my mind, try to be the one Every time that I lose myself Every time that I am freed from your spell Free from your spell x2 Choosing a reason, becoming so obsessed Escape from a prison, where you bound to a cell Killing the freedom, enslaving yourself Controlled by a vision, its shape never seen again Every time that I lose myself Every time that I am free from the rest Free from the rest x2 Obsession like this is unearthed You can take what you needed Obsession like this is unearthed You can take what you wanted Obsession like this is unearthed Obsession…
5.
Nadir 08:32
Show the reason to hang on Show the prison where I belong Feel there’s something still in my thoughts If there’s nothing where should I go I’ve been travelling on my own To find the species, existence call Still I’m searching by myself Is this heaven? Am I dead? And I’ll be diving in the stars To this moment when I’m loved And still I’m dying in your arms So, come and save me I’m your sun
6.
Dead End 05:33
Lose my soul, I am trapped into the air, Lose it all, I am gone I play it dead, Either way, I feel this emptiness, Either way, I cannot escape this hell And I call your name, Every other day, And I am trapped inside, Between this endless lie, And I just need your call, I just want it all, I don’t wanna be there In this fake dead end Lose it all, fear no more, I can’t see the rest I am trapped deep inside and I can’t find the way Either way, I am lost inside my head Either way, I am trapped into your spell And I call your name, Every other day, And I am trapped inside, Between this endless lie, And I just need your call, I just want it all, I don’t wanna be there In this fake dead end I see the green sign, when I get high, I see the green sign, when I get high, I see the the green light when I free my mind, I see the green sign when I free my mind Fear my soul, fear no more x 4
7.
Ghost Town 06:19
In this town where I was born, with my ego in my soul, the sun was rising in the air, the sand was golden in my hands Nah, Naaah Nah, Naaah I still regret that darkened hour, when the devil cursed our land and the sky just turned to black and the people lost their smiles and the people lost their smiles and the people lost their smiles and the people… and now they've lost their only hope, and now they pray to all the gods, so they redeem their precious home and they can free their imprisoned souls…... (Ghost Town) So get your guns and fight them all, (Ghost Town) so you can stab them till their gone, (Ghost Town) and look the devil in the eyes, (Ghost Town) and cut his throat a million times x2

about

"Aphasia" is the long waited Debut album of the Cypriot Heavy rockers STONUS, a fully analogue 41:43 minute LP recorded live at Wreck it Sounds Studios in Corinth, Greece under the supervision of George Leodis and John Modes. The man behind the artwork, this magnificent creation, is Diogo Soares.

'After half a decade of musical experimentation and constant learning, between UK and Cyprus, Stonus managed to define their sound seeking deep into their roots, combining a mix of psychedelic, stoner, doom and hard rock. Their debut album "Aphasia" tries to imitate the mental disorder in a more spiritual and personal perception allowing the listener to travel in their own musical path...'

Aphasia impairs a person’s ability to use or understand words. People who suffer from it may have difficulties speaking and finding the words to complete their thoughts, understanding conversations, reading, comprehending words and using numbers. Aphasia will always stay inside of you shrinking your thoughts remaining in your consciousness, trying to run after you...Can you handle it?...Can you handle it?...Can you Handle it?

Reviews:

“APHASIA is yet another deadly weapon in the new Greek Stoner uprising! Chock full of hot Desert licks and molten metal, Stonus carve out seven huge hunks of solid rock and fashion them as idols to the Sun God.” ~REEK OF STOOM (DOOM CHARTS)

“ Stonus have whipped up an explosive cocktail of fuzz, heaviness, psych, tripping and doom. This album will rock your socks off! Oh, and how about the fabulous cover...the band is pulling out all stops to make this a memorable piece of work.
As Aphasia nests forever in your consciousness so will this album. Stonus have created a stone cold killer album"
~ROBERT CAMASSA (Music/Radio Producer CYBC)

“The guys know their craft and the fuzz is strong with this ones, the vocals are a nice surprise as I don’t get reminded to OZZY OSBOURNE or one of the other usual suspects, bass and drums are also very present.” 8.5/10
~ REFLECTIONS OF DARKNESS

The production and overall sound of the album is excellent and allows Aphasia to be quite a load and action-packed album indeed. Aphasia has a cool and addictive warm glow to it. Overall, Stonus have released a superbly entertaining record that will hopefully enhance their reputation within the Stoner Rock/Metal community. ~ STEVE HOWE (OUTLAWS OF THE SUN)

“This is a band that is growing into their sound and I really dig it!” ~ FUZZY CRACKLINS

“It becomes really clear by the end of this record that Stonus definitely meets that criteria with their debut being far more than just notable. So much about what makes “Aphasia” great is in its loyalty to all that is modern rock, and the whole of the record flourishes because of that.” ~HEAD-BANGER REVIEW

“Recorded in Greece, at wreck it sound studios in Corinth, "Aphasia" has a raw, fat, well-mastered, hyper-saturated sound, and yet very heavy and fuzz rock. Far from being apathetic, stonus shows immediately visible energy. From the first notes of " awake, " Nadir " or " Ghost town ", we enter the subject... under a sun of lead! The seven tracks of the album are of tremendous efficiency, and the maturity of the young band surprises. To Discover urgently! ~ FRANCOIS ALAOURET (ROCK'N FORCE)
